《Message from Director》
I am Dr. Satoshi Handa, the director of the Chiba Mental Clinic since April 2023.
Recent progress in medicine has brought many good medicines in the psychiatric field as well. However, I believe that there is a lot more in the mind of human beings than can be understood by natural science. From the start of my professional career as a psychiatrist, I have undertaken professional training in psychotherapy.
Although I do prescribe medicines, I doubt that every problem be solved by medication only. I would like to be a psychiatrist who values communication with patients and carries out psychiatric practice without too much dependence on medication. Should you have any questions and requests, please feel free to discuss them in the consultation.

《Our Practice》
I believe that a psychiatric clinic is a consultation counter for any trivial issues. It is one of the ways to survive this stressful contemporary society to let out what is on one’s mind where the confidentiality is secured. You do not have to worry lest your problem be too trivial to tell a doctor. Do not hesitate to consult us.
The initial consultation lasts for 30 – 40 minutes, whereas follow-up consultation for 10 minutes, as a rule.
Regarding the age, we see patients older than junior high school students. We do not prescribe psychotropic agents without parental permission for patients under 18. (We may prescribe traditional Chinese medicines / herbal medicines instead).
Although we see elder patients of any age, regarding dementia, we may refer them to other hospitals because there is a need for brain MRIs and thorough examinations for other physical conditions.
Our clinic is a small one in the town. If you are suffering from urgent suicidal ideation or there is a risk of excitation and violence, we recommend consultation with a psychiatric hospital where they can deal with psychiatric emergency including the possibility of admission. Since epilepsy is out of our specialty, please contact a neurologist nearby.
We are registered to the Regulation Committee for AD/HD Medication and can prescribe Concerta. We can not prescribe Clozapine or Modafinil. We do not have LAIs now.
Seeking Second Opinion is always encouraged. If you want a referral letter, please do not hesitate. It usually takes a week to prepare one.

《How to consult》
Please ring us for an appointment for a consultation. We do not have online appointment system. Although we normally encourage 18+ patients to make a phone call themselves for the initial consultation, if you have difficulty with communication in Japanese, do not hesitate to ask your friends or colleagues who can speak in Japanese. Please be aware that Dr. Handa is the only one person in our clinic who can speak in English and the receptionists do not understand English.
Sometimes, you may have to wait longer despite your appointment due to the unpredictability of medical practice.
Please make sure you arrive approximately 15 minutes before your appointment for the initial consultation since we need some time for the registration. When you visit us for a follow-up consultation, you may arrive 5 minutes before the appointment.
If the patient cannot make it for the initial consultation and there are family members alone, you cannot use the health insurance system. It will cost you 8000 JPY for 40 minutes Family Consultation.
When you cannot visit us on the appointment, please let us know by the phone as soon as possible. If you feel you need on-demand treatment or have difficulty with observing the appointment, we recommend you consult clinics and hospitals where you do not need an appointment.
Our clinic has only two parking lots. If you drive to our clinic and the lots are already occupied, please find a toll car park nearby and make sure you do not park on the road.
We do not accept any violence verbal or non-verbal to our patients and to our staff. We want our clinic to be safe for everyone there. Thank you for your cooperation.

《What you need to bring》
Please make sure you have your insurance card with you. Bring your Medication Record, certificates for public supports, referral letter, and/or photocopies of the past blood tests, if your have one, please.
When the patient is under 18, we may need details of the babyhood and childhood developments. We advise the family members to bring the Maternity Passbook.
